Citations

Citations are the sources a model shows for what it just said about you, and they are the map of which pages are actually feeding your AI resume.

Used here in its plain sense, of the links a model displays beside an answer.

Sometimes called grounding sources or references, depending on the product.

A ranking tells you which page a search engine puts first. A citation tells you which page a model actually used.

A source can feed an answer without ranking for anything, which is why the citation list and the search results often disagree.

The audit chapter tells you to note the citations, because they identify exactly which sources to fix, refresh or outweigh. The correction chapter then works backwards from them: trace before you fix, because your AI resume is downstream of its sources.
